We file your insurance and accept assignment of benefits for the participating carriers. Insurance is intended to assist patients with medical expenses but no insurance covers 100%. There are always limitations and exclusions to coverage. We encourage patients to read your insurance policy and become familiar with what is and is not covered (ex: preventive care, non-covered and not medically necessary procedures). We also encourage you to direct questions to your employer (if your coverage is a group plan) or to your insurance company.

Some insurance plans require co-pays (paid prior to seeing the physician), deductibles and co-insurance amounts, as well as some non-covered and non-medically necessary amounts, which become the patient’s responsibility. We are required by the terms of our contracts with the insurance companies to collect such balances from the patient.

A signed Authorization to Release Medical Records is needed to release medical information to an attorney or insurance company. If a patient is transferring from one practice to another, a signed release is also needed. A fee will be charged, according to North Carolina guidelines, to attorneys, insurance companies and patients wanting their records for themselves.

Call the regular office number — (336) 621-8911 — and a recorded message will give further instructions and the number to call for the physician on-call. One of the physicians on our staff is always on-call. Please note that we do not share calls with non-Guilford Medical Associates physicians.

No appointment is needed for labs. The hours for walk-in labs are 10 AM – 4:00 PM. The early morning is reserved for labs for Annual Physical Exams and walk-in lab patients are not seen until 10:00 AM.

For new prescriptions, simply take your written Rx to the pharmacist of your choice. We are using an electronic prescribing system, whereby we communicate with the pharmacies by e-mail. If your physician or nurse has filed the Rx electronically, you will not need a written prescription. For refills, simply call your pharmacy and request the refill. The pharmacy will communicate with us by fax or e-mail. We process refill requests the day received if before 3:30 PM. Refill request received after 3:30 will be processed the following morning.

We support your right to the privacy of your medical as well as your personal information. We will not disclose or release any patient information, whether it be health or billing, to anyone without a signed authorization from the patient. All personally identifying information is protected and stored on a secure server. Medical information is stored in your individual patient chart, which is accessed only by our physicians and staff. All staff members have been thoroughly trained and abide by the strict HIPAA state and federal guidelines.
